Case Study No. 1 – Basic Upgrade Package
The professional staff at CSC completed an energy audit on a 2,200 sq.ft., single-family residence in Valley Village, CA. The house is a one-story, raised foundation structure constructed circa 1943. The assessment revealed insufficient insulation in the attic space, many HVAC duct leaks, and several structural openings from the attic to the home environment.
CSC removed and replaced the attic insulation with an R30, blown-in insulation, installed radiate barrier, replaced the several of the HVAC ducting, repaired many of the remaining ducts, and plugged the holes between the attic and the living space of the house. At the conclusion of the repairs, the homeowner enjoyed over 10% savings on energy cost.
Case Study No. 2 – Advanced Upgrade Package
A residential property located in the San Fernando Valley, CA. The home is a one story, 2,700 square foot, single-family residence constructed circa 1960s. An energy audit revealed lack of insulation in the walls and the attic space. Also, the HVAC system unit was outdated and undersized coupled with leaking duct system that was poorly insulated. In addition, the flooring panels allowed cold or hot air to penetrate the house from the crawlspace beneath the home. Finally, the windows and French doors were single-pane, which allowed heat or cold weather conditions to easily affect the comfort level of the indoor air.
CSC team started the upgrade of this home by first sealing all of the openings to the home. The HVAC system and ducting were replaced with more efficient AHU units, the attic was insulated with an R30 blown in insulation. In addition, all of the walls were insulated with R13 insulation. The crawlspace was covered with plastic sheeting in order to prevent exterior air from entering the home. Finally, all of the windows and doors were replaced with dual-pane, energy efficient units. Finally, we replaced the old light bulbs with the more efficient LED or CFL lighting. The tenants of the home currently enjoy great comfort and an incredible 30% savings on their energy bill.
